The garden is doing well. Lucky for me someone in our house waters plants on a regular basis. This is a good thing because we are under an extreme drought right now... which means it's dry like July during one of our (supposedly) rainy months. To combat the drought (and because he likes to build stuff) Pete created portable gardening bins that water from below (pour water into the white PVC pipes). We conserve water and the plant roots grow deep, making them stronger and hopefully more fruitful. We have peas, beans, and and tomato plants in our two bins.
In our raised garden the tomato plants, squash, zucchini, and tomato plants are getting bigger and bigger. The tomatoes are doing so well that we actually have a couple of little tomatoes already. The tomatoes are on one of the cherry tomato plants... they did really well last year too.
We ran out of room (or went crazy buying plants... take your pick) so we have several starters still hanging out on the deck. They seem ok... one has a tomato already but I am sure they are root-bound. The lettuce in the raised bed is about to flower and the spinach is pretty much done so I believe these guys may find a home later this week.
Hopefully I will have carrots and onions soon too.

Looking good, Kim! I like your self-watering containers! Something that might be good to look into for next year are ollas. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olla
You bury them in the ground with their neck sticking out and fill them with water. The water seeps through the terra cotta into the ground. Same principal as the pvc, really. Just cooler looking, I guess.
PVC is so attractive though :) Thanks for the tip Liz... the pots are a really great idea.
