Texas Carrots.

I planted carrots in November.  I just harvested them tonight.   That's a long wait for a carrot.

According to Texas A&M, you shouldn't plant carrot seeds to deep.  I believe that was my first problem.

To be fair, Pete added dirt to our garden in March... but 2 to 3 inches deep is probably too deep.

My second problem?  I probably tossed in 100 seeds when 10 would do.

My harvest wasn't too bad though.

There were some pretty decent carrots, but there were a lot of babies too.

I am happy that Pete no longer has to water the carrots... but i'm still hung up on the 8 month wait for a carrot harvest.   Seems extensive... what if I really needed them in May?

I probably should have picked dug them up a few months ago, but eh... how would I spend my Monday nights if I did everything like "they" say to?

Love the carrots, I'm trying to figure out if I can have a garden and keep from killing everything I plant! PS I posted one of my maternity pics on my blog, and I think it's my new favorite of the bunch. I know it was almost a year ago, but I keep looking back and picking new favorites! Thanks for being so awesome :)

You should plants some more now for winter! They do take a long time, but they are so so good. I need to get my timing down so I can have carrots all year, but I haven't figured that one out yet.

they look good! i was shocked how long mine took to grow. the package said 90 days but 180 was more like it. i think you're supposed to plant them less than 1/4 inch deep - i've seen directions to sprout them first in a wet paper towel because the top of the soil can dry out so fast it takes them a long time to germinate.
